Alonzo Hazelton Handy III of Mesquite, NV passed away on August 3, 2022, just over a month shy of his 84th birthday. He was at home surrounded by family when he died. “Lonny,” as he was called growing up, was born in Preston, ID to Alonzo and Dorothy. He married Carolyn on a snowy Thanksgiving Day in 1961, nearly 62 years ago.

After graduating with a B.S. in Chemistry from Utah State University, Al and Carolyn moved to Salt Lake City where Al started working for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) as a hydrologist and water quality specialist. He stayed with the USGS until he retired in 1993. The job moved the family every 3-4 years eastward to Georgia, Virginia, Michigan, Saudi Arabia, and Colorado. After retirement, Al and Carolyn moved to Utah to care for their parents. Eight years later they settled in Mesquite.
Al was an intelligent and quiet man with a broad sense of humor and easy laugh, and a dutiful husband, father, and pet owner. He is survived by his wife Carolyn; son Allen (Amber), daughter Kristina (Melissa); brother Roger (Annette); Aunt Carol; granddaughters Courtney, Amy, Indiana, Sophia, Natasha, Kiara; and great grandchildren Ira, Jasper, and Scarlett; and his cat Lily.
