The Mesquite Nevada Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints held its semi-annual conference June 10th and 11th at the stake center. Saturday evening all priesthood leaders met from 4 until 5:30 pm. The adult session then followed from 6-8 pm. Sunday morning the ward and stake council members met from 7-8:30 am.
The general session of conference for all members and their invited friends was held from 10 am-12 pm. Beautiful music was provided by the stake choir. Speakers ranged from members of the stake presidency who gave inspiring talks to teenagers involved in Family Search who encouraged and challenged listeners to find an ancestor’s name to take to the temple. They also bore strong testimonies of the importance of the work done for these people. Even Primary age children were represented by very young speakers who though frightened and nervous gave beautiful talks of their love for the Savior and their determination to live as He lived, loving and helping others each day. The testimonies from these innocent, humble children were inspiring, hopeful and delightful.
Changes in leadership of the Spanish Branch and the Young Single Adults Branch were announced in the general session so that all present could raise their hands in a sustaining vote. The new presidency of the Spanish Branch is President Josue Cuauhtemoc, 1st Counselor Jamie Flores and 2nd Counselor Juan Gomez. The new presidency of the Young Single Adult Branch is President Jerry Martinsen, 1st Counselor Doug Waite, 2nd Counselor Scott Taylor, and Secretary Mel Johnson.
